My journey into the art world was a little late in life. At the age of 60 my life turned upside down and I needed to find my way through a difficult period. Art became my saviour, lost in the world of acrylics, watercolour, canvasses, paint brushes and new friends I found a passion that had been hiding waiting to be discovered.

I asked myself, what is Art?

Art is everywhere you look, it takes on many forms
But who decides what Art is Art,
And what is just not Art at all?

Gather up the Academics, get them on your side,
Get THEM to say that it is Art,
That’s all it takes, you’ll see

Sell it to the super rich, the obscure hideous stuff,
Get THEM to say that it is Art,
That’s all it takes, you’ll see.

Show it to your friends and family, surely they’ll agree,
Get THEM to say that it is Art,
That’s all it takes, you’ll see.

Watch the tourists smile and look, take pictures on their phone,
Get THEM to say that it is Art,
That’s all it takes, you’ll see.

Do some research, find ideas,
Be creative, be yourself,
Create your own unique style,
Take some classes, learn new skills,
Think in the box, out of the box,
Or just don’t think at all,
Paint with anger, paint with love,
Paint from the heart with happiness and joy,
Perhaps with doom and gloom,
Delve in deeper, inner thoughts,
What is there to lose,
Young or old, it doesn’t matter,
Rich or poor, no discrimination,
We all have got a chance,
Paper, paint, charcoal, glass,
IT has got it’s place
The choice is endless, take your time,
To find what’s right for you.

What’s clear to see there’s no wrong Art,
Let’s find the one for me,
The one that brings me peace and calm,
A brighter place to be.

I just need YOU to say it’s Art,
That’s all it takes, you’ll see.
