practical work starting the print process

The first attempts at printing were not very successful. It needed a steep learning curve as I had no previous experience of printing using a material printing ‘plate’.

I tried various different methods of inking, printing and medium (paper, tissue paper, material).

First I tried inking a plate, putting the clean material onto the plate and through the press to transfer ink to the material. The end result on the plate was interesting but not transferrable to tissue or paper.

I then started to ink the template directly and achieved much better results overall

One of my ideas for the show was large hanging pieces of thin material with spider’s webs printed on it. I tried using the ‘successful’ process of directly inking the plate and printing onto material. Extremely unsuccessful. A major rethink of project ideas required.

Going back to the original process of printing onto paper and tissue paper was more successful. I made several prints for inspiration of what to do next. An added twist, include some extra red threads to see what happens.

Interesting! On going research and ideas required.
