Presentation : Realisation – Web Prints, Hanging Systems, The Show

A visit to the gallery confirmed my allocated space and reinforced my final proposal.

I had finalised my ideas, 3 tissue paper spider prints with blurred images of faces behind (or an alternative that I will try out in the latter part of the term – charcoal drawings). Set in the alcove lit, and hopefully with a mirror on each end facing each other. This will reflect the spider images multiple times making it a ‘never ending’ image, much as the victims see themselves, a never ending entrapment.

In front of the alcove will be a fabric hanging installation of a huge web, or series of webs. The viewer can go behind the fabric to see the pictures, and if they turn round will have a sense of feeling trapped in the spider fabric.

To achieve my end goal I need a large selection of the tissue prints of webs with a selection of obscured images of faces or charcoal drawings of faces. From the selections I can chose which combinations make the best 3 final pieces.

I will produce 2 separate hanging systems that incorporated spider’s webs. The webs need to be transparent enough to see the three prints in enough detail to entice the viewer to venture behind it and look at the pictures of the webs.

I used the printmaking sessions to produce a number of sample webs printed onto tissue paper of different intensities and depth of colour. This also produced some brilliant prints of webs on standard paper. I may use one of these in the exhibition.

To assist with my final installation I made a miniture 3D version of my alcove. I made a small version of the two hanging options to assess which one might be the most suitable.
