After looking again at the Numen Collective images an idea popped into my head about an alternative hanging web solution. Could I create a framework to make a web with cord. It would be more see through to show the viewer the artwork behind the web to entice them into the alcove to look at the prints with faces.

It would need a lightweight structure to weave the webs, the structure needed to be easily dismantled and re-assembled for transportation from home to the gallery. As it needed to be 2m X 2m it was too big to create in the classroom as there would be nowhere to store it and hang it whilst weaving. I am also aware of my impending hand operation and need to have a task that can be done during it’s recovery. I think the weaving process might be achievable with one hand (the wrong one!).
I purchase some lightweight hollow 2m poles during a trip to Lancashire. If I could get them to London easily it would probably be OK for the journey from home to the gallery.

I will need a big wall to hang the structure and still be able to work on it!
Next I needed to work out how to make a reasonably rigid square that could also be dismantled for transportation. Using items found in my DIY kit, along with some 4mm nylon twine the structure was created.

A basic web structure will be made sewing the cord to make the threads, attaching them to the structure and then weaving the cross sections. Manual stitching will be required to keep each section aligned and in the right place.
Work to continue during the ‘practical’ sessions after the presentation.
